1948 - The steps that lead pilgrims up to the shrine on the eastern side were done up with the help from the local people and other benefactors. There are totally about 136 steps. Half way down the steps one comes across a platform on which stands a large cross, bearing the year of its construction as 1678. The original cross is believed to have been brought here from the ruins of the ancient church of Santa Ana.
